One killed in Satkhira ‘gunfight’

An alleged member of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party was killed in a 'gunfight' with law enforcers in Tala upazila of Satkhira last night.

The deceased, identified as Mozaffar Sana, was accused in 18 cases including extortion and murder, said Sagir Miah, officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station.

During a raid in Magura Bazar, police signalled a motorcycle carrying Sana to stop, and sensing the presence of police the miscreants blasted two crude bombs. In retaliation, police opened fired that triggered a "gunfight", reports our Satkhira correspondent quoting the OC.

Two of the three criminals managed to flee leaving behind the injured Sana, who was declared dead at upazila health complex.

Police recovered one shutter gun, three rounds of bullets and a motorcycle during the encounter, the OC added.
