Uday Shankar is the pioneer of modern dance in India. He was a dancer and choreographer, and creator of fusion style in dance.
A mixture of European theatrical techniques to Indian classical dance, filled with elements of Indian classical, folk, and tribal dance, his dance style got popular in India, Europe, and the United States in 1920s and 1930s.
Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre had organised a lecture by Mamata Shankar, who is the daughter of Pandit Uday Shankar and Amala Shankar.
Mamata herself is an accomplished dancer, choreographer and actor. In her speech, she spoke about her father Pandit Uday Shankar's dance forms and methods on Friday, August 7 at IGCC Auditorium in Dhaka.
