2 killed as storm lashes Patuakhali

Two women were killed when their tin-shed houses collapsed on them during a storm that lashed different upazilas of Patuakhali this morning.

The deceased are Tanjila begum, 19, daughter of Kuddus Hawlader of Hartaki Baria village in Sadar upazila; and Selina Begum, 25, of Bhanga village in Golachipa upazila of the district. 

Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sadar Bakaheed Hossain said Tanjila’s house collapsed on her during the storm that began around 9:45am. She died on the spot.

Two people – Hanif Akando, 55, and Chand Banu, 50, -- were also injured as trees fell on them at Hartaki Baria village. They were receiving treatment at a local hospital.

In another incident, the roof of Selina’s house fell on her during the storm, leaving her dead on the spot, said Amkhola union parishad chairman Mamun (Full name could not be known immediately).

The storm has uprooted many electric poles, plunging Dhumki, Golachipa, Dasmina and Baufal upazilas into darkness.
