Prime accused remanded over pregnant mother shooting

A Magura Court today granted seven-day remand against the prime accused in Magura pregnant mother shooting case.

Sen Sumon, vice-president of Magura district Chhatra League, was produced before the court with a 10-day remand prayer, said Imaul Haque, officer-in-charge of the detective branch (DB) of police in Magura.

Later, Farah Mamun, senior judicial magistrate, granted seven days remand against the accused, said Imaul, also investigation officer in the case.

Asked when the accused will be taken to remand, the OC said, “It can be said after receiving the copy of the court order.”

Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Sen Sumon from Kalyanpur in Dhaka on August 2.

On the same day, police also arrested another accused in the case, Nazrul Islam, 30, after raiding a Dhaka-bound bus in Shreepur upazila of Magura.

The eight-month pregnant mother was shot in the abdomen during a Jubo League factional clash, which left one killed and another person injured. Her baby received bullet injuries in her womb. The bullet pierced through her right shoulder and also injured her right eye.

Miraculously, the baby survived after a two-hour caesarean operation on her mother at Magura General Hospital on July 23. The 35-year-old mother, Nazma Khatun, survived too.
