What's In the Box?
Platforms: iOS, Android, Windows
Ever wanted to be locked up in a room while a mysterious box sits in the middle for you to unlock? Yeah, me too and The Room grants you that opportunity. Developed by Fireproof Studios, a studio consisting of previous members of Criterion Games, The Room sets off to quench your curiosity for the occult. Is the game scary? No. Eerie and spooky? Yes. What's inside the box? Well, without spoiling it, more puzzles and mysteries to be unraveled.
The first level is quite easy compared to the next ones, the game is overall quite difficult, and that is the reason why they have a hint button. Whether your pride will let you press it or not is up to you but it'll be increasingly tempting as the game progresses. You'll get occasional letters from a guy hinting at what is actually going on. The mechanics and controls are extremely intuitive. Since it's a 3D game, graphics is an important component and The Room is brilliant in that department. Although there's no music, the sound effects do their job of escalating the eerie feeling. You'll be astounded time and time again as you complete each level and move on.
The Room has won Apple Game of the Year, BAFTA and multiple other awards. If you'd like to continue the story and mystery, The Room Two and Three are waiting for you. Since it's a graphically intensive game, a mid-range phone is recommended for smooth gameplay.
