Committee formed to amend MPO guidelines: Nahid
The government has formed a nine-member committee to amend guidelines for enlisting educational institutions under Monthly Payment Order (MPO) facility, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told parliament today.
Replying to lawmakers’ queries, Nahid said the education ministry will finalise the guidelines for MPO enlistment after receiving the proposals from the committee.
"After having the budget allocation, the government will consider MPO enlistment of educational institutions as per necessity," he said.
Nahid also said the MPO enlistment of private educational institutions is an ongoing process.
"The Awami League government in its previous tenure in 2010 enlisted 1624 private educational institutions under MPO," he said.
In reply to another query, the education minister mentioned that there are currently 26,084 private educational institutions in the country which are getting MPO facility.
60,000 posts of teacher vacant in primary schools
More than 60,000 posts of teacher are now vacant in primary schools across the country, Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman told Parliament today.
Among the vacant posts, 16,603 are of headmaster and 44,095 are of assistant teacher, the minister also said.
