Price of panache
Eid shopping can be challenging, and to make matters worse, almost everyone needs to stay within a stipulated budget! For those people (read: men) who have put off their shopping so far, we have a solution.
Here is our guide for shopping on three selected budget ceilings, for top picks for Eid shopping without breaking the proverbial bank.
A frugal affair: TK 2000 and below
Admittedly, this is the most difficult limit to stay within. The markets opposite the Dhaka College on Mirpur Road are the ultimate destination for budget shopping. Smart T-shirts, shirts, gabardine trousers or chinos are all within reach, with no worries to boot.
T-shirts will cost you anywhere from Tk 250 to Tk 350, depending on your bargaining skills while pants and chinos will set you back about Tk 600.
If you cannot find what you are looking for, do not worry because this is not the only place you can go to if stuck on this budget.
Situated on the edge of the Old Town, Bongo Bazaar is another great place for frugal shopping. It has quality apparels, mostly sourced from residual stocks of exports!
It is a must visit for shoppers looking to save some hard earned Eid bonus, because let’s be honest, that is what this place is really famous for. The market is home to hundreds of stalls so you can get your hands on anything you want.
However, if these markets are a bit too much for you, you can also check out Ananna Plaza in DOHS Baridhara. Do not worry about the upmarket location though, because this plaza recognises that not everyone has the budget of an entire country for shopping and so has everything you need for a budget minded, yet stylish shopping.
A breather: TK 5000
This is more in line with what many men, both professional and students, have as a budget for their shopping and with it, you can shop for outfits in places like Cats Eye, Big Boss, Menz Club, Astorion or Artisti. Sure, they have countless products on offer that puts this budget to shame, but they do have many stylish and unique designs aimed towards the budget minded as well.
Big Boss has one of the best collections of casual summer T-shirts while Artisti will help you look fancier and dressed up with formals. For panjabis, Sadakalo and Anjans are solid choices.
Stripes and checkered patterns are trendy this summer, and there are plenty available in these stores in many cuts and shades. You can round off your shopping with a visit to Bay Emporium for shoes.
Now we are talking: TK 10000
This is an interesting limit, and one that can serve as a bit of an experiment. You can either go for multiple apparels on a lower price level, or go for a unique outfit from some of the designer shops in the city.
Sailor and Noir are some of the easier choices for this budget. You can also look at Westecs for that extremely well tailored outfit. Outlet store, Top 10 offers a complete suit for a lot less than their other competitors without sacrificing quality, so it is definitely worth checking out.
If the suit seems fancy and you are looking for something simpler, a visit to Zurhem will definitely be the right choice for you. The high end store offers sculpted shirts with polished supporting elements that will add that extra bit of flare to your outfit.
For shoes, Hush Puppies is a proven brand and goes highly recommended; they have an exquisite line of designs, not to mention their unmatched comfort.
And there you have it. Shop smart and stay within your budget and make sure to get yourself some awesome loot for this Eid!
