2 war crimes suspects held in Mymensingh
Police arrested two people in Mymensingh today for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
Hazi Amjad Ali, 88, and Riaz Uddin Fakir, 65, of Fulbaria upazila, were picked up hours after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued arrest warrant against three war crimes suspects, including the two.
Police arrested the duo from their respective villages around 2:00pm immediately after receiving the court order, Rifat Khan Rajib, officer-in-charge of Fulbaria Police Station, told The Daily Star.
“We are trying to arrest the rest one,” he added.
Prosecutor Hrishikesh Saha said the investigation was going on against the three suspects and the investigators have already collected evidence over their involvement in war crimes.
The prosecution filed a petition praying to the tribunal for issuing arrest warrant against the trio for the sake of proper investigation, he said.
