SC admin urges govt to beef up security at courts

Following the recent terrorist attacks at Gulshan and Sholakia, the Supreme Court administration today requested the government to tighten security of judges, lawyers, court officials and litigants at the courts across the country.

After discussion with the lawyers and police, the SC authorities requested the government to take necessary measures to this effect, SC Registrar General Syed Aminul Islam told The Daily Star.

He said Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha yesterday held a meeting with some lawyers including Supreme Court Bar Association President Yusuf Hossain Humayun and its Secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon at his SC office.

Today, another meeting, presided over by the SC registrar general, was held at the SC conference room between its officials and law enforcers in this regard.

Several decisions were taken at the meeting including tightening security at the residences of the SC judges, imposing some restrictions on vehicular movements at the SC premises, and setting up of some scanners there, the SC registrar general said.

Besides, the SC authorities have decided to send a letter to the local administrations and lower courts to ensure sufficient security there, he added.
