NSU professor, 2 others arrested
Police today arrested three persons including a professor of North South University on charges of renting out a flat to Gulshan café attackers without keeping their personal information.
The Counter Terrorism Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested them from different parts of Dhaka at around 5:00pm, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP.
The detainees were identified as Gias Uddin Ahsan, Dean, School of Health & Life Sciences, his nephew Alam Choudhury and the building’s caretaker Mahbubur Raham alias Tuhin.
Associates of the five attackers moved into the flat at Block E, Road 6 of Bashundhara Residential Area on May 16, but Gias Uddin did not collect the required information from the tenants to submit it to police, as per the DMP directive, police said.
Just after the attack, they fled from the house promptly. Later, police seized different items including a sand-filled carton and their cloths from that flat.
The law enforcers suspected that the box might have used for keeping grenades, police said.

However, when contacted, an official of the NSU denied making any comment in this regard.
The DC also said the owner of the flat is Gias Uddin and his nephew Alam and caretaker Tuhin were assigned to deal tenant-related issues.
But, they did not keep any record of the tenants, though DMP had instructed all the house owners in Dhaka to keep record of the tenants, he added.
