The High Court today questioned the legality of a government order that restricted giving salary to the teachers of non-government high schools and colleges, who are not enjoying monthly payment order.

The court issued a rule asking the government to explain in four weeks as to why its order should not be declared illegal.

The HC bench of Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil came up with the rule following a writ petition, filed by 44 teachers who are not enjoying MPO, challenging the legality of the government order.

Petitioners' lawyer Siddique Ullah Miah told reporters that the Ministry of Education on November 13, 2011 issued a notification restricting salary to the teachers of non-governmental high school and colleges, who are not enjoying MPO.

Following the notification, around 15,000 teachers have been deprived of salaries, he added.
