VAT on private universities won’t be reduced: Muhith
The value added tax imposed on the tuition fees of the country’s private universities will not be reduced, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said today.
The minister made the remark in the wake of protests from various sections against the 7.5 percent VAT.
He was speaking at a food distribution programme among children marking the 40th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Baghbari area in Sylhet city, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
“Since they can pay fees of Tk 30,000 to Tk 50,000 per month, why cannot they pay only 7.5% VAT?” said Muhith.
The minister said that there is no ground for the movement against the VAT.
