Dhaka attack: Tahmid sent to jail after remand

Canadian university student Tahmid Hasib, who was arrested under Section 54 on suspicion of having links with the Gulshan attackers, was sent to jail after completion of his 14-day remand in two phases.

Metropolitan Magistrate Delwar Hossain passed the order after Inspector Humayan Kabir of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of DMP produced him before it seeking permission for sending him to jail.

The court also rejected bail petition of Tahmid submitted by his lawyer.

Police claimed that former university teacher Hasnat Karim and Tahmid “instigated” the Gulshan café attackers.

The attackers killed 20 hostages -- nine Italian, seven Japanese, two Bangladeshis, one Indian and one Bangladesh-born US citizen -- and two police officers on July 1.

Tahmid went to the restaurant with two female students of a private university.
