Varsity admission seeker ‘raped’ in Dhaka

A university admission seeker was allegedly raped by two youths at a Moghbazar residential hotel in Dhaka last night.

The victim hailed from Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur and had been residing at a women hostel in Mouchak to continue her coaching classes for taking part in the upcoming university admission tests, Sub-Inspector Nazmul Islam of Ramna Police Station told The Daily Star today.

Shawn, an honours student of Tejgaon College and also a friend of the victim, called her over phone around 5:00pm yesterday, the SI said, adding that Shawn asked the girl to meet him for taking some important notes regarding the admission tests.

Responding to the call, she met Shawn and his friend Niloy at Moghbazar and then they went to a nearby residential hotel where she was allegedly raped, Nazmul Islam said.

The girl went to Ramna Police Station around 9:30am for legal aid. Later, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for test, the SI added.
