Transport movements on the intersection and nearby roads were suspended following the demonstration, which has aggravated the traffic condition.

“We will continue today’s demonstration till 1:30pm,” Shafiqul Islam, one of the agitating students told The Daily Star.

“Our accommodation problem has to be addressed immediately, we want dormitories,” he said adding that the demonstration will continue until our demand is fulfilled.

The JnU students announced a strike after police barred their procession from reaching the Prime Minister's Office yesterday.

The students started their demonstration demanding residential halls on the land of Dhaka's old central jail soon after the prison was shifted to Keraniganj last month.
