Earthquake jolts Bangladesh
A tremor jolted different parts of the country including Dhaka, Pabna, Natore, and India’s Kolkata, Assam and many parts of Myanmar this afternoon.
The earthquake was felt at 4:37pm in Dhaka.
The epicenter of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake was at 25km West of Chauk, Myanmar and 500km from Southeast from Dhaka, Syed Humayun Akhter, a professor of department of geology at Dhaka University told The Daily Star.
The depth was 84.1 km at the epicenter, according to http://earthquake.usgs.gov/.
However, there was no immediate report of damage or casualty.
Panic gripped Kolkata and Patna, where residents were seen rushing out of their offices and residences, reports our Kolkata correspondent.
Metro services temporarily suspended in Kolkata after earthquake tremors were felt in the region. No damages were reported from any of the areas.
