46-year wait for a bridge in Bogra

A bridge over the canal in Uttarpara Charmatha area in Pakullah union under Sonatola upazila of the district has not been built as yet despite assurances by public representatives and law-makers for the last 46 years.

People of at least five villages have to cross the canal by small boats or by using a single-bamboo bridge, risking their lives. Many villagers have fallen from the bridge and sustained injuries.

Newly elected Pakullah Union Parishad Chairman, Zulfikar Ali Shanto, said he would build the bridge during his tenure.

Upazila Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department Sonatola, Shaikat Das said he would inform the higher authorities about the need to build a bridge over the canal.
