Nashid Kamal to perform at Varanasi Festival

Indian organisation “Art beyond borders” is organising its second festival in Varanasi, India, where six artists from Bangladesh - Rafiqun Nabi, Jamal Ahmed, Vinita Karim, Muniruzzaman, Farida Zaman and  Sultan Ishtiaque will be participating. Alongside them, noted Nazrul Sangeet exponent Nashid Kamal will also be performing at the festival. There will be participants from both India and Nepal.

Organiser Sandhya Singh Parmar hopes that it shall soon turn into a SAARC event.

Nashid Kamal will be singing Nazrul songs, Bangladeshi folk, Hindi bhajans and semi-classical numbers as well as Urdu ghazals on September 19 in the ghaats of Varanasi, where the festival will be held.

Nashid Kamal, an eminent cultural personality, received the Nazrul Institute award in 2013 for music and translation. She has 15 albums to her credit, ten of which are of Nazrul Sangeet. Her translation work includes 100 songs (into English) of Nazrul in two volumes. She has also translated the biography of Kazi Nazrul Islam, and the autobiography of Abbasuddin Ahmed.

On her tour of India, Nashid Kamal will also be performing Nazrul songs on the popular Kolkata-based TV channel Tara Muzik on September 22, in the programme “Aj Shokaler Amontrone”.
