A year on, no headway in Ctg's Mehedi murder probe

A year has passed since Jubo League city unit activist Mehedi Hasan Badal was shot dead by miscreants, but the probe into the case have not made much headway.

Nine out of 22 accused in the case were arrested earlier but six of them were released on bail. On the other hand, police neither could establish the motive behind the killing nor could arrest the 13 other accused.

On September 1, 2015, unidentified miscreants shot Mehedi, 40, former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League Chittagong Polytechnic Institute unit, dead near his house in Sher Shah Area under Bayezid Police Station.

The accused are now threatening the family to withdraw the case, said victim's wife Mobashwera Begum, adding that police are not arresting the accused although they have come back to the area and are continuously threatening them either on the phone or using abusive language near their house. The family lodged a general diary with Bayezid Police Station in this regard

“Police did not complete the investigation,”said Mobashwera. About her claim, Additional Commisioner (crime and operation) Debdas Bhatyacharya said they had sent teams to arrest the fugitives but they are constantly changing their whereabouts.

Golam Rasul alias Saddam, Arman Hossain, and Abdul Quddus Bappy alias Kana Quddus are now in jail. The fugitives, including Md Safi, Md Raja, Md Illius, Md Momin, Md Abu and Mahabubul Alam, are influential residents of the area.
