Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal became the highest century-maker for his country in ODI cricket when he reached three figures during the third and final match of the series against Afghanistan at Mirpur stadium today.

Tamim reached his ton in 110 balls. He smashed 10 boundaries in his knock and with Sabbir Rahman gave Tigers a solid platform to up the ante later in the innings. The opener was reprieved in the third over when Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai dropped a sitter at mid-on.

Tamim tried to pull, the ball got big on him and he miscued his shot badly. The top edge spooned towards mid-on where Asghar made a howler he won't forget soon.

After entertaining the Mirpur crowd with a barrage of fours and sixes, Tamim was finally dismissed in the 39th over after scoring 118. He faced 158 balls in total, and struck 11 fours and two towering sixes in his seventh hundred.

The southpaw from Chittagong has seven tons to his name, one more than his teammate Shakib Al Hasan. Tamim has one century against England, one against Ireland, two against Pakistan, one against Sri Lanka, West Indies and now Afghanistan.
