Creating magic
Eskay is a full service event and décor management firm located at the heart of Bashundhara. It specialises in providing high end interior designing and is equally impressive at organising and arranging themed events. Owned by the charming Saimul Karim, the store displays a mixture of vintage and fusion interior designs and furniture mirrored with complementing wall and floor panels.
"I was actually quite self-dependent ever since I was a child. I would draw, paint, and often make props and candles," said Saimul during a sit-down with Star Lifestyle.
It was after college that Saimul first met a group of choreographers and designers who introduced him to the world of designing. Very soon, he was working on fashion shows before he finally got his first real break, working for a boutique in Banani.
Sometime later, he was recruited by a store specialising in décor. "I started my job there and soon met and worked for clients who were actually happy with my designs and ideas," added Saimul, but unfortunately that was not enough. Soon after, the store went through administrative changes and he was once again on the fence and in search of something better. To help increase his employability, Saimul decided to get a diploma in architectural design.
Later on, he found some partners who helped him in setting up an office and that is how Eskay was born.
Within months of establishing Eskay, Saimul started to make a turnover and the rest is history. Now, a veteran of interior design, the CEO still remembers his roots.
"My first project was for a client in Uttara. I completely designed his entire duplex. He wanted a vintage theme and that is exactly what I did for him. He was delighted with the result and we are still in touch."
Eskay is involved in much more than design with roots in event management, clothing and even landscape design. Eskay's themed parties are well acclaimed for their attention to detail and impressive layouts. Saimul and his team oversee every aspect of each event whether it is themed or otherwise to ensure customer satisfaction. The team uses books and existing art forms to stay on top of their craft.
When asked how Saimul would design a hypothetical house meant for aliens from Mars, he took it casually in stride. "We have seen enough movies to get an idea of what aliens would want. I would make the apartment technologically savvy and would definitely pull out all the stops. If I am to design a house for aliens, I might as well go a little crazy with it," said Saimul.
The interior design store has many combined themes that will help you identify exactly what you want. This includes popular trends which mix contemporary and fusion, mirrored furniture, antique and Victorian themes and even tufted clothing. What you get would depend on your preferences and the application.
It is important to remember when looking for an interior designer that it is not all fabric and fun for the person hired to do the job. Aside from colours, furniture and fabrics, the interior designer has to be well versed in the history of design, needs to take into account the structural integrity of the buildings, codes, computer-aided drawings and much more. It seems that interior designers are expected to be the Jack of all trades and for Saimul Karim, that title seems quite appropriate.
