‘A great moment for Bangladesh cricket’

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim was all smiles as he spoke to the media immediately after the match against England. Having secured a historic Test 108-run win against England, their first win in 10 attempts, to end the two-match series 1-1, and the Bangladesh captain could not contain his joy at his side’s victory in the topsy-turvy match.

"It's a great moment for Bangladesh cricket. It was up and down and never knew which team would win. The coach was a bit fired up at tea, we didn't bowl too well. Then they tried to bowl in good areas and did really well. The bowlers did a great job,” said Mushfiqur at the post-match presentation ceremony.

He also reserved some special words for Mehedi Hasan, the 19-year-old who made his Test debut in this series and finished the second match with 12 wickets to his name.

“We didn't think Mehedi would shine like this. He's a good batsman as well and hopefully will be a great all-rounder for Bangladesh.”

However, Mushfiqur reiterated some words which have been said by his teammates before, saying that their next challenge, a tour of New Zealand, would be a true challenge.

“In the last two years we've played well at home, but our next challenge is overseas. We have to adapt really well. You can't get home conditions everywhere,” Mushfiqur said, before adding that hopefully this win would give Bangladesh the opportunity to play more Tests.

“We are getting there, hopefully if we play more Tests there will be more good results. Hopefully ICC and other boards will send us series against the big boys. I also want to say thanks to the ECB for coming and the security teams."
