2 deer rescued, 140kg venison seized in Barguna
Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued two deer and seized 140 kilogrammes of venison in Patharghata upazila of Barguna district early today.
The coastguards seized a trawler from where they rescued the deer and seized the venison, but no one was arrested in this connection, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.
The Coast Guard members, acting on a tip off raided a trawler which was anchored on Bishkhali river in Badurtola area around 3:00am, said Lt Syed Abdur Rauf, commander of Patharghata station of Coast Guard.
The smugglers escaped from the trawler sensing the presence of the coastguards in the area, the commander said.
The Coast Guard members suspect the deer and venison was smuggled from the Sundarbans.
The two deer and 140kg of venison recovered from the trawler and later handed over to the local forest department.
