Two Bangladeshi films at Montreal International Film Festival
Two feature films from Bangladesh -- Abu Shahed Emon's “Jalaler Golpo” and Rubaiyat Hossain's “Under Construction” -- will be screened at the prestigious Montreal International Film Festival to be held from August 27 to September 7.
The films will be shown in the Focus on World Cinema category, one of the most sought-after events in the 39th edition of the Festival, rated in category A in international film festival circuit.
The films by Emon and Hossain will be screened on four days from September 2.
Leading Iranian director Majid Majidi's much-talked about film “Muhammad: The Messenger of God” on the childhood of the Prophet is expected to have its world premiere at the Montreal Festival. The most expensive film made in Iran has the involvement of top cinema artists including Indian music composer A R Rahman and cinematographer Vittorio Storaro.
“Under Construction”, featuring Indian actors Sahana Goswami and Rahul Bose and Rikita Shimu, Mita Chowdhury, Shahadat Hossain, Toufiqul Emon, Sohel Ovi of Bangladesh had its world premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival, USA, this year.
“Under Construction”, which revolves around the journey of a Muslim woman's search for her identity in Dhaka city, is the second feature film by Hossain after her debut work “Meherjaan” had to be pulled out of theatres following a controversy in the year 2011.
“Jalaler Golpo,” a story about the journey of a young boy from the squalor of poverty, has won top awards at Jaipur International Festival in India and Avanca International Festival in Turkey earlier this year and will hit the cinema halls in Bangladesh on September 4 this year.
