WATCH NOW: BPL fans clash with police
The Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, apart from hosting the eliminator and qualifier of the Bangladesh Premier League today, was also the venue of some unsavoury scenes in the crowd, namely in the grandstand section.
The incident occurred after the first match between Rajshahi Kings and Chittagong Vikings, which the former won. Amid the celebrations after the match in the grandstand, two groups of supporters engaged in jostling and pushing each other, and when one group went to complain to the police personnel assigned to the section there was some reported pushing and manhandling of the police officers.
Deputy Commissioner of Mirpur Division Masud Ahmed, when contacted, said that there was some trouble at the stadium, and that there will be an investigation into the matter. No action is being taken as yet, but if some wrongdoing or unlawful activity on the part of the supporters is uncovered, firm action will be taken.
It has been learnt that the supporters of Dhaka Dynamites, who are currently engaged in the qualifier against Khulna Titans, were occupying most of the seats from noon, when their team were not even playing. It was the loyal supporters of Rajshahi and Chittagong who were supposed to occupy the seats. Three or four Dynamites banners were also hung, and that reportedly added to the growing discontent.
