IUB holds Bangladesh Physics Olympiad 2017 Dhaka Event
In collaboration with Independent University Bangladesh (IUB), Bangladesh Physics Olympiad organised the 7th Bangladesh Physics Olympiad 2017 Dhaka Event on December 17, 2016 at the permanent campus of IUB in Bashundhara.
Students from various schools and colleges across Bangladesh took part in this national competition. Best eight winners of the competition will participate in 18th Asian Physics Olympiad to be held in Russia while the best five winners will take part in 48th International Physics Olympiad in Indonesia.
After the programme, Prof. M Omar Rahman, VC of IUB distributed crests and certificates among the winners of Physics Olympiad as the chief guest. Officials of Bangladesh Physics Olympiad and the Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Sciences, IUB also spoke on this occasion.
SEU organises Young Entrepreneurs Demo Day
Young Entrepreneurs Demo Day (YEDD) was successfully held on December 11, 2016 organised by School of Business Studies (SBS) of Southeast University (SEU). Students of Entrepreneurship course participated in this programme to explore an opportunity to get a hands-on approach moving from idea, to product/service development.
The event was inaugurated by the VC of SEU, Prof. Dr. AFM Mafizul Islam, Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Registrar of SEU Maj. Gen. Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, psc (Retd.), Dr. Mehe Zebunnesa Rahman, Director BBA programme, Dr. Farhana Ferdousi and Sabreya Khanor Zuma, moderators of the programme.
Entrepreneurs' performance are evaluated throughout a day-long monitoring based on factors like leadership, service/product innovation, operation management, pre-event sales promotion, customer relationship management, customer satisfaction, inventory management, etc.
CrossCulture Internship Opportunities in Germany
Are you interested in doing an internship in Germany for two-three months with a renowned organisation in your field of expertise? The CrossCulture Internship programme organised by the German Federal Foreign Office, together with the Institute for Foreign Relations (ifa), offers funding and support for internships in Germany to young professionals and committed volunteers in different areas of civil society, media and organizations with similar objectives. CrossCulture Internships are offered in the fields of Politics, Society and Education, Human Rights and Peace Building, Sustainable Development, Media and Culture for a period of two to three months at a German organisation. Participants receive a monthly scholarship and all expenses related to the stay in Germany are covered – such as travel expense, visa fees, accommodation and health insurance. The ifa furthermore organises placement in a relevant, renowned German organisation that suits the awardees' respective profiles.
Applicants should possess a good command of English and have permanent employment or permanent volunteer involvement in an organisation or institution in Bangladesh. Knowledge of German is an additional qualification, but not a requirement. Applicants should be aged between 23 to 45 years. Currently enrolled university students will not be considered for selection. Furthermore the applicants must be in good health. Physical as well as mental fitness must be sufficient to successfully complete a longer stay abroad and to comply with requirements deriving from the work to be completed during an internship.
Selection of suitable candidates will be done by the ifa in consultation with the German Embassy in Dhaka. Eventually, an interview will be conducted by the German Embassy. AIUB Shomoy Club organises The IDEAS Challenge 2016
American International University Bangladesh (AIUB)'s Shomoy Club under the guidance of the Office of Students Affairs of the University organised an idea-generation competition. In this connection the AIUB Shomoy Club brought together teams from various schools and colleges around the city. The day-long finale was held on the December 8, 2016 on the university premises.
Capt. (Retd.) AB Tajul Islam, MP and the Chairman of the Standing Committee in the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs was the chief guest, together with Bikash Kishore Das, the Additional Secretary of the Statistics & Informatics Division of the Ministry of Planning. VC Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna was also present, and the Vice President for Student Affairs, Nadia Anwar, who presided over the opening ceremony together.
Each team exhibited and presented their ideas through either posters or model prototypes; a panel of judges evaluated each idea on a number of criteria, ranging from their feasibility to their creative implementation. The panel held both internal and external judges, including faculty representatives, Farheen Hassan and Dr. Tabin Hasan.
The 3rd place was taken by the Team Explorer from Safiuddin Sarker Academy & College for the project prototype on Climate Change. Team Mobin from B.A.F Shaheen College won the 2nd Place for their project prototype on Quality Education. Team Quark from Notre Dame College proved their mettle and won the 1st Place for their project on Climate Change.
ADL and BAU sign MoU
American Dairy Limited and Bangladesh Agricultural University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a period of five years on December 10, 2016 with the view of performing better research to establish a center for work of excellence in the field of AnGR, Genomic evaluation and genetic tools.
Prof. Dr. M A Akbar, VC, BAU, was present as chief guest in the MoU signing ceremony. CEO, American Dairy Limited & Neurologist Dr. A. S. Alim and Head of Department, Animal Breeding and Genetics, BAU, Prof. Dr. Md. Monir Hossain signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
After the ceremony, a team visited ADL research fields and all related laboratories.
NSU organises ICCIT 2016
This year North South University organised the International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT) 2016 from December 18-20. Researchers and professionals from both academia and industry from USA, Japan, China, Denmark, Norway, Pakistan and India along with Bangladesh participated to share latest knowledge and experience in the fields of information and communication technology.
This year's ICCIT was hosted to provide a unique opportunity for the local computer and information technology professionals, scientists, engineers, educators, researchers and students from all over the world to exchange their scientific ideas, views and thoughts with fellow researchers and participants. This conference addressed some of the more relevant and state-of-the-art issues and topics involved in computer science and engineering and information technology.
The conference will eventually build a forum of researchers from public and private organisations, entrepreneurs, engineers and students and open a door to innovations and sustainable developments in IT which will have a significant impact on shaping Digital Bangladesh.
