Candy crush...almost!
A candy is not only an element made of sugar and flavours that thrives in your body in the shape of flabs; rather it is the Severus Snape to your little Hogwarts that is called 'life'. When your whole world is falling apart, when you fail your test, when you try to stop yourself from calling your ex, when you remember that your mother did not feed you that 'ek baati payesh' before your exam, candy comes to your rescue. This candy irrespective of all shapes and sizes hides in your pocket and sings the f.r.i.e.n.d.s theme song. But that is not where candy stops. There are many cases where we will actually see that candies after all can defeat the 'tooth fairy'.
The cotton mouth
The worst thing during the whole day, other than having a bad breath or dealing with bad memes on Facebook, is having to deal with our mouth constantly drying out. This results in losing taste buds in your tongue for a moment or two. Sometimes strong medications can cause a dry mouth too, which is why it goes to a point where we can only differentiate between sweet and salty. This is where candies kick in and why the cotton cuties hold onto candies in their pockets like it is their treasure.
The stress eaters
There comes a moment or two in our lives when we can hear our heartbeats pumping through our ears. We sweat and we cannot feel our hands or our lungs. Anxiety or depression is the worst kind of enemy we probably have to face with. When nothing else works, the quick remedy than antidepressants is by all means candies. Be it before exams, or an interview, these stress eaters know their way through fighting the bitterest stress in the sweetest way.
Fighting low blood sugar
Diabetes, as it is, has an impact on how one tend to take sweets or any kind of 'on the go' snacks. It is a logical fallacy that the only issue diabetics face is hyperglycemia. A low blood sugar level is an issue for many people, and to boost that declining sugar level - and fast - candies come as god send.
Diabetics always carry hard candies or gummy worms with them depending on how much sweet they should take or not having the risk of obtaining low blood sugar. So, if you are diabetic you might just well want to carry one or two hard candies just in case of emergencies.
The Willy Wonkas
As the couple sat in the round table for their third date, both of them seemed nervous. An awkward silence prevailed as they both skimmed through the menu. The waiter came after a few minutes and they started ordering their dishes by taking turns. Thai soup and corn soup, fried rice and chow mien but when it came to dessert they both said 'no'! "I like to eat a bar of Snickers or KitKat as dessert. I am sorry if it sounds too childish," said the girl.
"You mean this?" said the boy as he got a bar of Hershey's out from his pocket. As they giggled and high fived they knew that two Willy Wonkas are now together and they wished it was forever.
The Willy Wonkas do not care about how many flabs they will end up with or how it could probably ruin their teeth because they like living the moment with the things they love and they love candies. Candies are the love of their lives. A friend they pour their emotion and stress to.
The 'bhangti nai' tribe
They are the classics. When the 'mamas' run out of coins they will hand out a Mr. Mango or two because let us be honest, symbolically they are the all-time Santa Claus we could ever ask for. So, whether they have a reason or not, this group seems to have candies in their pockets because they could never have the change they wanted. Petty gift, if I must add? But they will always offer you a candy or two. Trust me.
At the end of the day we all love candies whether we keep it in our pockets or not. If it gives us a reason to smile or tempt our taste buds with, it wouldn't hurt to take one, once in a while. May this year be all about new tastes and good decisions so that they at the end of the year we don't end up with sad memes and statuses on our walls.
