Bangladesh 103 for 3 after Day-4

Bangladesh ended the fourth day at 103 for 3 in 35 overs after an action-packed last session in the Test match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad today.

Shakib Al Hasan was batting on 21 from 42 and Mahmudullah Riyad on 9 when the umpires decided to call off play for the day. In the last session of day-4, 103 runs were scored for the loss of three wickets.

For India, Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets for 34 runs in 16 overs. Ravindra Jadeja captured one wicket during Bangladesh’s second innings.

Earlier, Bangladesh were dealt a body blow late on day four when Mominul Haque departed soon after Soumya Sarkar to leave their team at 75 for 3 in 24.1 overs.

Ashwin gave one ample flight, and the ball turned sharply to take the outside edge of Mominul’s bat. Mominul's short stride found him a long way from the pitch of the ball and his defensive push could not cover the turn. Rahane took another catch at slip, and Bangladesh found themselves under real pressure!

Bangladesh lost their second wicket in the second innings when Soumya Sarkar was sent back for 42 by Ravindra Jadeja to leave the tourists at 71 for 2 after 22 overs.

Jadeja produced the perfect length outside off and Soumya came forward to defend. The ball struck the outside half of the bat and carried to slip where Ajinkya Rahane took an excellent catch.

Earlier, Tigers lost their first wicket in the second innings when Tamim Iqbal was dismissed for 3 by Ravichandran Ashwin to leave the tourists at 11 for 1 after 5.2 overs.

Although umpire Joel Wilson initially ruled not out, India took the review. It was quite clear in the replays that the batsman got an inside-edge before the ball struck the pad and lobbed up towards Virat Kohli who took the catch.

India declared their second innings at 159 for 4 after 29 overs and gave Bangladesh a target of 459 runs at tea.

India scored 158 runs in 28 overs in the post-lunch session. Cheteshwar Pujara was batting on 54 from 58 and Ravindra Jadeja on 16 when India declared in the second innings. Virat Kohli struck a breezy 38 while Ajinkya Rahane made 28.

For the tourists, Taskin Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets each.

Bangladesh got their fourth breakthrough during India’s second innings when Ajinkya Rahane was sent back by Shakib Al Hasan for 28. The ball drifted on without turn and beat the wild swing of Rahane to knock back the middle stump.

Bangladesh got their third breakthrough during India’s second innings when Shakib Al Hasan dismissed the in-form Virat Kohli for 38 to leave the hosts at 90 for 3 after 16.5 overs.

Shakib struck in the 17th over, as the India captain went too close to the pitch of the ball and bottom-handed his shot to Mahmudullah Riyad at mid-wicket.

Taskin Ahmed of Bangladesh gave his team two early breakthroughs in India’s second innings during the post-lunch session of day-4.

India lost their second wicket in the sixth over when KL Rahul edged a short, wide ball from Taskin to keeper Mushfiqur Rahim.

Bangladesh tasted success in the fourth over of India’s second innings when Taskin sent back Murali Vijay for seven. The India opener tried to cut a short, wide ball and ended up top-edging to Mushfiqur.

Earlier, India were ahead by 300 runs in their second innings when the players left the field for lunch on the fourth day.

A valiant effort from the Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim enabled his team to reach 388 in their first innings in response to India’s 687.

Bangladesh trailed India by 299 runs when Mushfiqur was the last man to be dismissed for his side. Mushfiqur tried to sweep a ball from Ravichandran Ashwin, and the carom ball down the leg side was gloved by the batsman to keeper Wriddhiman Saha.

End of a terrific innings from Mushy that carried Bangladesh to a decent total against a strong attack.

Bangladesh lost their ninth wicket when Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Taskin Ahmed for 8 to leave the tourists at 378 for 9 in 124.3 overs . Taskin played for some turn and the lack of it deceived him in the end. The outside edge was safely taken by Ajinkya Rahane at first slip.

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim led from the front with a fighting hundred as his team battled on during the first session of day-4 of the Test match.

At the end of the 119th over, Bangladesh were 356 for 8 with Mushfiqur batting on 103 from 243 balls. Mushfiqur’s fifth ton of his career came at a crucial time when the chips were down for Bangladesh. The diminutive wicketkeeper-batsman struck 13 fours and a massive six along the way to his hundred.

Earlier, Bangladesh lost their eighth wicket when Taijul Islam, after softened up with some lethal short-pitched deliveries gloved a bouncer to the keeper to leave the field at 339 for 8 in 113.5 overs.

Indian pacers Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav used the short ball to good effect and made life extremely uncomfortable for the Bangladesh batsmen. Taijul, who was struck in the arm in the 113th over by Ishant, got his glove in front of his helmet to protect himself, and was dismissed after lasting 9.1 overs with his captain Mushfiqur Rahim.

Tigers suffered the worst possible start to the fourth day of the Test match when they lost Mehedi Hasan Miraz in the first over.

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar got one to swing back in from a fullish length and Mehedi’s footwork was too limited to deal with the movement and the huge gap between bat and pad was exploited by the Indian bowler…leg stump knocked back!
