Spotting a Supervillain

Ever wondered how the supervillains get their lairs? It was always one of the biggest questions that bugged me. In this day and age, it's difficult to find huge islands and mountainous ice caves to build a single man's happy time spot, let alone being the ground zero for a private army. The smart writers always put something inconspicuous, like a research lab or an institution, on top of the underground lair of villainy. The people rarely suspect a thing because they are too busy focusing on the diversion. Thank God there's no one around with their own private playground devising a plan to collectively bash humanity with their metaphoric hammer of greed.
