2 ‘robbers’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Satkhira cops
Two suspected robbers were killed in a “gunfight” with police in Tala upazila of Satkhira early today.
The deceased were identified as Bidyut Kumar Bachhar, 46, son of Kanai Bachhar of Maguradanga village, and his associate Talha Sheikh, 26, of Sujanshah village in the upazila, reports our Satkhira correspondent quoting police.
Being tipped off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robberies at Rahimabad, a team of police conducted a drive in the village around 3:15am, said Hasan Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gang opened fire on the cops, prompting police to fire back, triggering a gunfight, police said.
After the “gunfight”, police along with locals found two bodies lying on the ground while the others managed to flee the scene, police said.
The law enforcers recovered two pistols, four bombs, two bullets and some sharp weapons from the spot.
Bidyut was a leader of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML), the OC said adding that he was wanted in 14 cases including murder and extortion.
