Bonsai: The Living Art
Do you know a big banyan tree can grow on your balcony or rooftop? Sometimes you can display it to beautify your drawing room! Yes, you can do this by bonsai art.
Bonsai is a miniature tree which grows in containers or pots. The word "Bon-sai" is a Japanese term which, if literally translated, means "planted in a container". This art form is derived from an ancient Chinese horticultural practice, part of which was then redeveloped under the influence of Japanese Zen Buddhism.
The ultimate goal of growing a Bonsai is to create a miniaturised but realistic representation of nature in the form of a tree.
A bonsai artist, Md Borhan Hossain is the founding member of Bangladesh Bonsai Art Society who shared his experience with Star Live about the bonsai art.
He said that, we can't find the rows of trees in our capital city Dhaka. Trees are symbol of oxygen. Oxygen is essential for life. For making a greener world and decreasing environmental pollution we should plant a lot of trees, he added. It is impossible in city life, but bonsai art can do it. He also said that, "I think bonsai art is very helpful to save our nature."
Anybody can learn bonsai art and then practice it at home's balcony or rooftop to save nature. He also said bonsai is not only an art but also a source of income. He said that at the beginning of practicing bonsai art anyone can choose trees like Bot, Pakur, Kamini, Tetul, etc.
