Bangladesh thump Nepal by 83 runs
Bangladesh overwhelmed Nepal by 83 runs in their second match of the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2017 tournament at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium, Cox's Bazar today.
Chasing 258 for victory, Nepal were bundled out for 174 in 42.3 overs in the end. Nepal lost early wickets and were on the back foot. The fourth wicket stand of 98 in 135 balls between Dipendra Singh Airee and Dilip Nath kept the tourists in sight of their target. However, once the partnership was broken, Nepal lost wickets in regular intervals and were out of the contest.
For Nepal, Dipendra top-scored with 56 from 85. Dilip chipped in with 36 runs.
Bangladesh’s Rahatul Ferdous Javed ripped out the heart of Nepal’s middle over with his four-wicket burst. He took 4-45 in seven overs. Shaif Uddin captured 3-33 in 8.3 overs.
Earlier, a brilliant unbeaten hundred from Nasir Hossain enabled Bangladesh to post 257 for 9 in 50 overs.
Bangladesh were asked to bat first after Nepal won the toss, and almost immediately found themselves in trouble with wickets falling from the first over.
By the fifth over, Bangladesh were three down for 15. The fifth wicket stand of 78 between Nasir and Mominul Haque stopped the rot but Nepal kept taking wickets at regular intervals after their stand and pegged back the hosts.
When Bangladesh were 175 for 8 after Rahatul Ferdous Javed was sent back for four, Nasir and Abul Hasan Raju began the counter attack and the ninth wicket partnership of 76 in 55 balls changed the complexion of the innings, and allowed Bangladesh to reach a challenging total in the end.
Nasir was not out on 109 from 115 balls, and he struck 12 fours and two sixes in his responsible knock. Mominul Haque scored 61 from 78 balls with seven fours to his name. Abul contributed with 29 handy runs late in the innings.
For Nepal, Avinash Karn was the most successful bowler with three wickets for 46 runs in eight overs. Sandeep Lamichhane took 2-41 in 10.
