The Supreme Court today directed Nahar Gardens Limited’s Managing Director Md Shafiul Islam alias Siaful Islam to surrender before a lower court immediately in a Basic Bank loan scam case.

The apex court asked the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka to issue arrest warrant against Saiful Islam if he does not surrender in connection with the case.

A three-member bench of the appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after hearing a leave to appeal petition filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) challenging a HC order that granted bail to Saiful in the case.

ACC lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that the ACC has filed a case with Paltan Police Station on September 23, 2015 against Saiful Islam on charge of misappropriating Tk 30 crore from basic bank through forgery.

The amount had become Tk. 47 crore with the interest and the basic.

Following a bail petition, the HC on January 25 this year granted bail to Saiful Islam in this case.

The ACC recently filed the leave top appeal petition with the SC challenging the HC bail, the ACC lawyer added.
