Srinivasan barred from ICC meeting by SC

The Indian Supreme Court today ruled that N Srinivasan, the former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, cannot represent BCCI at the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting on April 24 as he has been held guilty for conflict of interest, according to a report in the online edition of The Hindu.

The court, however, allowed BCCI’s acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary to represent the board at the ICC meeting and directed BCCI CEO Rahul Johri to accompany him.

The observations came when counsel for the court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) sought a hearing on the interim plea seeking a clarification on whether persons, who are rendered ineligible to hold posts in cricket bodies as per the July 18, 2016 judgement (the SC accepting the Lodha Committee's recommendations on reforming the BCCI), can be nominated as BCCI representatives to take part in the ICC meeting.

The Deccan Chronicle’s website reports that the Supreme Court said that there is a “cloud on Srinivasan’s integrity”.

Earlier this month, a BCCI special general meeting was adjourned due to the presence of some of the officials, who were rendered ineligible of holding office within the structures of the Indian cricket board.

Srinivasan, along with the likes of Niranjan Shah, TC Matthew, Ranjib Biswal and G Ganga Raju, all attended the meeting, despite being over 70-years of age, which disqualifies them from being BCCI office bearers according to the Lodha committee’s major recommendations on reforms in the BCCI, which the SC accepted.
