Fakhrul slams ‘irresponsibility’ of govt officials in haors
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today came down heavily on government officials in haor areas as they are staying abroad, leaving the flashflood affected people there.
“A larger part of the country has been affected by flashflood while respective officials in the areas are on foreign trips. It proves that there is no government in the country,” Fakhrul told reporters at the Birdem Hospital in Dhaka.
He went to the hospital to visit Sanah Ullah Mia, legal affairs secretary of BNP, who is now undergoing treatment there.
Responding to a query, Fakhrul said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should have visited the flashflood affected haor areas long before.
“The prime minister is scheduled to visit in the haor areas on April 30. But it is too late,” Fakhrul said.
Meanwhile, BNP senior joint secretary general Rizvi Ahmed also alleged that the government has created obstruction on the way to distribute the relief materials among the flood victims.
He said the party’s vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman was scheduled to visit Sunamganj on Friday to distribute relief materials among the flood victims. But the local administration has foiled the visit as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to visit the area on the same day.
Rizvi came up with the allegation while speaking at a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan central office in Dhaka.
