Punishment for distorting Liberation War history

Parliament tonight unanimously adopted a resolution to enact a law for punishing those who will “distort” the country’s history of 1971 Liberation War and the mass killing.

Awami League MP Fazilatun Nasa Bappy (Reserved Seat-30) submitted the resolution in the House, which was adopted by voice vote.

In her proposal, Fazilatunnesa said, “Those who deny the mass killing do not believe in the country's independence and sovereignty. They don't respect our constitution. So, they must be punished by the state by enacting a law."

While responding to the resolution, Law Minister Anisul Huq supported it saying what the lawmaker said in the proposal is a historical truth.

The minister also said his ministry has already drafted a law titled 'Bangladesher Muktijudder Itihas Bikritikoron Oporadh Ain' to prevent distortion of history of the country’s 1971 Liberation War.

He also added that the draft bill will be placed before the cabinet soon and will be passed in the ongoing parliament.
