Jhenidah ‘suicide blast’ militant is Abu

Lawmen today identified the man dead in “suicide blast” of Jhenidah raid as Abdullah Abu, who escaped during a raid in the district in April.

“We suspected Abu was among three dead militants of Chapainawabganj raid,” Monirul Islam, chief of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime, said.

“But now we are confirmed about his identity,” he told reporters at a press briefing. “Abu was killed in suicide blast while another militant Tuhin, aged 25, killed in police firing,” Monirul said.

A police officer “narrowly escaped” from the suicide blast carried out by Abu at the “Neo JMB” militant hideout in Jhenidah's Maheshpur upazila.

Arrestee identified as local Neo JMB coordinator

The arrestee of Jhenidah drive of May 5 has been identified as the local coordinator of militant group Neo JMB.

Meanwhile, the drive at a tin-shed house in Lebutola in Sadar upazila, that resumed this morning after yesterday, ended around 12:30pm today, our local correspondent reports.

Seven grenades, one pistol, three bullets and bomb making materials were found in the house, DIG Didar Ahmed told a press briefing while announcing conclusion of the operation.

DIG Didar also revealed the identity of arrestee Shamim Hossain, 22, as coordinator of Jhenidah’s Neo JMB group. Shamim was held on May 5 from his house at Lebutola.

Based on Shamim’s information, police yesterday conducted another drive codenamed “Subtle Split-2” at Bazrapur village in the district’s Maheshpur upazila.
