Blogger Ananta murder: Court accepts supplementary charge sheet
A Sylhet court has taken into cognisance a supplementary charge sheet against six persons in a case filed over the murder of blogger Ananta Bijoy Das.
The court also fixed May 23 for framing charges against the six accused and acquitted 10 suspects, who were detained in connection with the case.
Sylhet Metropolitan Session Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha passed the order yesterday after Criminal Investigation Department submitted the charge sheets before his court.
The charge sheet accused are: Shafiur Rahman Farabi, 30, Mannan Yahya alias Mannan Rahi, 24, Abul Khaer Rashid Ahmed, 24, Abul Hossain, 25, Harunur Rashid, 25, and Faisal Ahmed, 27.
Of the accused, Shafiur Rahman Farabi, Mannan Rahi and his brother Mohaymen Noman are in jail while Abul Hossain, Faisal Ahmed and Harunur Rashid are on the run.
Earlier on August 28 of last year, Arman Ali, inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge-sheet accusing five persons and recommending acquittal off 11 others.
On October 28, Haridas Kumar, judge of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3, ordered CID to reinvestigate and submission of fresh findings in the revised charge-sheet.
Ananta Bijoy Das was hacked to death at Subidbazar in Sylhet city on May 12, 2015 on the way to his office. Later, banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team claimed responsibility of the murder through online post.
Ananta's brother Ratneswar Das filed a murder case accusing some unnamed persons with Sylhet Airport Police Station. Later, the case was transferred to CID.
