Case filed over Mymensingh Ahmadiyya imam attack

A case was filed on Tuesday night over a knife attack on an imam of Ahmadiyya Muslim community inside a mosque in Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh district.

Plaintiff Hazari Al Munir, also a representative of local Ahmadiyya Muslim community, filed the attempt to murder case with Ishwarganj Police Station accusing three people around 11:00pm.

Among the accused, two were unidentified miscreants and another was Abdul Ahad Mohammadullah of Chariya village of Kalmakanda upazila in Netrokona, said officer-in-charge of Ishwarganj Police Station Badrul Alam Khan this morning.

Ahad was arrested from the spot during the incident.

The detainee will be interrogated after getting release from the Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital as he is now undergoing treatment there, he added.

Police also held Ahad's wife Josnara Begum and his two siblings Ainuddin and Mainuddin for interrogation, the OC added.

A group of miscreants numbering three to four stormed into the mosque at Khanpur village around 8:30pm on Monday night and chopped imam Mostafizur Rahman, 25, indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him injured.

Hearing victim's scream, locals rushed in, caught one of the attackers, Abdul Ahad and handed over to police.

Later, he was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.
