BCL leader among 3 held for ‘gang-rape’ of 2 women
Three people including a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were arrested today in connection with “gang-rape” of two women at Kotchandpur upazila of Jhenidah on May 5.
The arrestees -- Shahin Sheikh, president of the upazila unit of BCL, Krishna Das and Raju Ahmed– were arrested after a case was filed against them this morning, said Biplob Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Kotchandpur Police Station.
The accused were sent to jail after they were produced before a court in Jhenidah.
The two women were allegedly gang-raped by some youths at a mango orchard near Kotchandpur Railway Station at night on May 5, reports our Jhenidah correspondent quoting police.
The victims were waiting at the station on their way to Dhaka that night. The youths picked up them at the orchard and violated them throughout the night, the OC said.
The women were sent to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for medical tests, he added.
Meanwhile, President of Jhenidah district unit of BCL Shakil Ahmed told The Daily Star that Shahin has been suspended from the party after allegations of rape surfaced against him.
