Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Moinul Khan today said that the gold and diamond being sold at the outlets of Apan Jewellers were brought in a “smuggled way”.

“There were allegations that the gold and diamond being sold at the outlets of Apan Jewellers were brought in a smuggled way and we found evidence of it,” he told The Daily Star.

In line with the continuous operations against gold smuggling, CIID raided Apan Jewellers and seized 540 Kg gold and 427gm diamond from five its outlets. The huge amounts of gold and diamonds have no valid paper, he said.

However, they [owners of Apan Jewellers] were given time till May 25 to provide the valid document, he further said.
