Follow these tips to be safe in cyclone Mora

Cyclone ‘Mora’ might make landfall on Bangladesh’s Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar coasts by tomorrow morning. Danger signal no. 10 has been issued at Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar maritime ports while signal no. eight at Mongla and Payera ports.

Here are some tips that might keep yourselves and properties safe before, during and after the cyclone.

At the onset of cyclone

-For any emergencies, call CCC’s control room numbers: 630739, 633649

-If anyone hurt, call 634843

-Have your access to local alerts and warning systems for any update

-Keep emergency stuffs like first aid supplies, torch, battery operated portable radio, important documents and medicines ready

-Gather everyone indoors including any pets

-Stay away from doors, windows and exterior walls

-Turn off all electricity, gas and water and unplug all appliances

-If safe, move your vehicle undercover and secure any outdoor furniture and other items

-Fill buckets, sinks and baths with water in case the water supply becomes restricted

During a cyclone

-Listen to your portable radio for updates

-Remain in safe shelters until further notice

After a cyclone

-Don’t return to your property or vehicle until authorities confirm it is safe to do so

-Flooding can occur after a cyclone. So always abide by local alerts and warning systems

-Stay away from damaged areas and properties

-Don’t use electrical appliances that have been wet until they’ve been checked for safety

-Drinking water may be contaminated

-Take photos and dispose of any items that have been affected by contaminated flood waters

-Stay away from damaged power lines, fallen trees and flood waters
