A Special Bond Ferdausi and Tropa Majumdar share birthdays
Ferdausi Majumdar, one of the most prominent faces of Bangladeshi theatre and her daughter Tropa Majumdar, also a theatre actor and director, share a little more than just a mother-daughter bond. The two also have concurring birthdays, which they will be celebrating together today. On the occasion, The Daily Star spoke to Tropa Majumder to learn about what plans they have in store for the day.
How do you usually celebrate your birthdays together, since it's on the same day?
Tropa Majumdar: Nothing too extravagant. For the past few years, we usually go out to dinner with the whole family at a nice restaurant on the day.
Is there any fun family tradition you both share for the day?
Tropa Majumdar: When I was younger, as soon as the clock struck midnight, we would surprise each other. I would have a surprise present for her, and she for me. And there would always be a competition of some kind to see who could give their surprise first.
What do you both have planned for this year?
Tropa Majumdar: This year, unfortunately, my father just left the country and amma has just recovered from Chikungunya fever, and it has left her very weak. So I just plan to spend the whole day with her.
What does your mother mean to you?
Tropa Majumdar: She is everything. A lot of people think while I was growing up, my mother could not give me time due to her career both as a teacher and actor. But that is not true at all. Starting from securing a good education for me, to raising me into the person I am, she has done it all. And I am thankful every day for her and everything she has done for me.
How would you like to wish your mother this year?
Tropa Majumdar: I wish and pray for her good health and a long life. The one thing I always want is my mother to be able to perform on stage for as long as possible. I wish her a happy birthday and good enough health to keep being the performer she is.
