Surprise loved ones with self-made gifts this Eid

Eid is a very special occasion to exchange gifts. We convey our feelings to our loved ones through the object we present. Ever thought of making those gifts on your own to make them more special?

Here are five easy but classy ideas to surprise your loved ones this Eid.

1. Pen holder.

A pen holder is always useful. You can buy hundreds of kinds of those in the shops. But what if you make one especially for your loved one? You can give it a look of your friend’s favourite superhero or something else s/he likes. It will remain on the desk of the person at office/ home and will always remind them of you.

DIY pen stand
1. You will need colored art papers, scissors, glue, toilet paper roll and a compass. 2. Spread glue over the toilet paper roll and paste the black paper. 3. Cut a round piece of red paper and cut it into half. 4. Make black dots on each halves. 5 & 6. Cut a hard piece of paper and stick it to the bottom of the pen holder.
And the perk is, it will be one of its kind! The time and energy you have invested in it will make it very special to your friend.

2. Bookmarks

Bookmarks are a part and parcel of life for book lovers. Do you have a friend who is always in the middle of reading something and who cringes at the idea of folding pages to keep track? (who doesn’t though). A set of bookmarks is the best gift for that person. I assure you, getting personalised bookmarks in cute shapes or favourite quotes written on them will make your favourite person’s day. And she/he will always get to carry a part of you with them in the form of bookmark!

3. Greeting cards

DIY greeting card
1. Colourful papers, scissors and glue are all you will need. 2. Cut 7 pieces of square of paper of various colours. 3 – 6: Fold each paper thrice as shown in the picture. 7-9. Cut the folded pieces in shape of petal. Unfold and paste two petals together as shown in the video to gain the shape of a funnel.
A greeting card is the most traditional item for any occasion. I used to save greeting cards as a child and still have hundreds of them. A birthday card from my 7th birthday with a cute message from a person almost estranged by distance now, never fails to make me nostalgic.

I personally like to give my 3-year-old nephew a greeting card on every birthday. He can’t read them now but will someday and feel very good, I hope! A greeting card made by your own hands with a special message will make it even more heartfelt.

4. Glass painting

Painting on a glass or glass made object is not as hard as it may sound. Trust it when an amateur like me says so. All you will need is a ceramic mug or a glass bottle or just a plain piece of transparent glass as canvas. Glass colour is easily available in stationery shops.

Just make an outline with the designated outliner that comes along with the paint and fill in the patterns with the colours. Let dry. Voila! You have created a piece of art! Let your loved one marvel about how creative you are.

5. Wall Décor

What do you think of wall decor as gifts? I think they are very good. I still have a piece made by my best friend in school hanging on a wall at my parent’s home saying ‘happy birthday’. It never fails to make me smile.

So, here are some ideas to make your loved one a funky or vintage item to hang on the wall and compliment their home.

Eid still brings back memories of childhood for most of us. Almost everybody agrees that there’s no Eid like that of childhood. Why not surprise your best friend, siblings, cousin, parents, significant other with a taste of childhood? It was a time when we had limited resources, so we had to often customise. Bring back memories of the time when we used to make a bracelet with the beads of broken earrings or greeting cards with cut out pictures from magazines.

Please let us know what you think about these ideas and if you attempted any of them. Wish you and your loved ones a very happy Eid. Keep gifting!
