Actor Golam Rafiq no more
Octogenarian actor Mohammad Golam Rafiq died of old age complications at a private hospital in Mymensingh on Tuesday noon.
Rafiq, a veteran and diversified actor with a career span of over 44 years, drew curtains on his career in 1990. Rafiq acted in acclaimed stage plays, films, Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Radio productions.
He made his film debut with “Chawa Paowa” (1966) and played a cameo with legendary film actor Golam Mustafa.
Rafiq worked with many prominent artistes including Anwar Hossain, Mithun Chakraborty, Utpal Dutta and Sohel Rana.
Rafiq also appeared in over 200 plays on stage and over 100 plays including serials on BTV.
Rafiq was enlisted as regular artiste of BTV and Bangladesh Betar in 1966.
The artiste continued his career in some 100 films till 1990. |His films include “Ashirbad”, “Bheja Chokh”, “Master Samurai”, “Dinkal” and “Beporoa”.
He was honoured by prestigious theatre groups and cultural organisations such as Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, Udichi Shilpi Goshthi, Mymensingh Sheba Niketan and Mymensingh Zila Parishad.
Mymensingh Zila Shilpakala Academy also honoured the artiste with “Zila Shilpakala Academy Sammanona-2013”.
“Golam Rafiq was once an inseparable part of Mymensingh theatre. We remember him as an iconic actor and a good soul," said Shahadat Hossain Khan Hilu, secretary of Bahurupi Natya Sangstha, a leading theatre group of the district.
