Moeen Ali fifth fastest to 2000 runs-100 wickets club
Moeen Ali became the fifth fastest to reach the double landmark of 2000 runs and 100 wickets in Test matches in terms of matched played.
He accomplished the feat against South Africa at Lord’s on the second day of the first Test on Friday.
His score of 87 helped England post a first innings total of 458 against South Africa.
He scored this 2000 runs at an average of 35.03, with five centuries including a best of 155 not out against Sri Lanka.
He also took the important wickets of Hashim Amla, Dean Elgar and Gary Balance when it was England’s turn to bowl.
Among English cricketers, only the great Tony Greig achieved the feat in few tests(37).
Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan remains the fastest to the feat having taken just 31 Tests.
