HC wants to know steps to prevent Chikungunya

The High Court yesterday issued a rule asking the government to explain in three weeks why it should not be directed to provide adequate compensation to the people affected by mosquito-borne Chikungunya.

In the rule, the court asked the respondents to show causes why they should not be directed to take immediate steps for destroying and crushing the Aedes mosquitoes and other mosquitoes by spraying proper medicine and cleaning the dumping spots of Dhaka City Corporation along with other affected areas of the

country.

The HC also asked the authorities concerned to explain why they should not be ordered to make an arrangement for building awareness and preventive measures all over the country.

Health secretary, LGRD secretary, mayors of Dhaka South and North city corporations and their chief executive officers have been made respondents to the rule.

The bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan came up with the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by a Supreme Court lawyer Shujauddowla Akonda on July 4.
