Contempt rule against Nat’l University VC

National University Vice Chancellor Prof Harun-or-Rashid today received a contempt of court rule for not paying a staff according to a High Court directive.

In the rule, the High Court asked Prof Rashid to explain in two weeks why of contempt of court proceedings should not be brought against him for noncompliance.

The High Court on August 22 last year directed the VC of National University to pay the salary and other benefits to one of the university’s Lecturer Hafizur Rahman.

The VC did not take any step to comply with the order.

Hafizur Rahman, on June 4 last month, filed a contempt of court petition against the National University vice chancellor.

After holding hearing on the petition, the High Court bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das today issued the contempt of court rule.
