Robber leader killed in Ctg gunfight: Rab
An alleged ringleader of a robber gang was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Chittagong city early today.
Deceased Abul Kalam alias Lyangra Kalam, 30, was said to be the chief of local criminal gang ‘Kalam Bahini’, our Chittagong staff correspondent reports.
Following a lead on an attempted arms dealing in the city’s Pologround area around 3:00am, a team of Rab-7 raided there, said Md Mimtanur, assistant director of Rab-7.
Sensing presence of the elite force, the miscreants opened fire targeting Rab men forcing them to retaliate with gunfire triggering a gunfight, he said.
At one stage, Kalam was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, Mimtanur said.
However, his cohorts managed to flee the scene.
One AK-22, a foreign pistol were recovered from the spot.
