Section 144 imposed in Pabna college

The local administration today imposed Section 144 at Dashuria Degree College in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna in a bid to avoid possible clashes between two factions of BNP ahead of its council.

“I have imposed the Section 144 on and around the college premises so that none can create any untoward incident centering the council of BNP’s Ishwardi upazila unit,” Rafiqul Islam Selim, Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer, told our Pabna correspondent.

He added that the restrictions on gatherings and processions will remain effective from 3:00pm to 9:00pm today.

Samshuddin Malitha, BNP’s Ishwardi upazila president, was planning to hold the council today at the college premises while Habibur Rahman Habib, assistant information and research affairs secretary of the party, called for a counter programme at the same venue this afternoon, said Biman Kumar, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station.

Sensing possible clash between the two groups, the administration has banned all kinds of meetings and gatherings in the area, the police official also said.

Additional police forces have also been deployed there to avert any unwanted incident, he added.
